ANDROS - Archäologisches Museum von Palaiopolis

Die archäologische Sammlung von Palaiopolis wurde erst kürzlich organisiert und die Neuordnung der Ausstellung ist noch nicht abgeschlossen. Es befindet sich in einem 1981 errichteten Gebäude, das der Gemeinschaft von Palaiopolis von der Basil und Eliza Goulandris Foundation gestiftet wurde.

Es enthält Sammlungen von Skulpturen, Reliefs und Inschriften von der Klassik bis zur Römerzeit.

Die wichtigsten Ausstellungsgegenstände sind:

  • Skulpturengruppe aus Marmor aus Palaiopolis. Es repräsentiert Pegasus, das mythische geflügelte Pferd, mit seinem Reiter Vellerophon. Es war das Akroterium eines Tempels und ist auf das Ende des 6. oder den Anfang des 5. Jahrhundert v. Chr. datiert. Inv. Nr. 206,
  • Marmorlöwe. Grabstatue in Originalgröße, gefunden auf dem Friedhof des antiken Andros (Palaiopolis). Datiert auf ca. 320 v. Chr. Inv. Nr. 208,
  • Beschriftete Marmorplatte. Es enthält 178 Verse der Hymne an Isis, die als Göttin der Erde, des Himmels und des Meeres und als Erfinderin des Segelsports gepriesen wird. Datiert auf das 1. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Inv. Nr. 106,
  • Marmorstatuette der Artemis aus der hellenistischen Zeit. Datiert auf das 3. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Inv. Nr. 209.
